PROFILE OF DR. ILLANGO

Dr. RK Illango is a veteran of the life insurance industry. He has 20 plus years of diverse experience with both direct and reinsurance companies.

During the past 10 years he has worked closely with chief underwriters to help them manage mortality. He has been involved in every facet of mortality management including review of claims, design of requirements and lab testing programs, direction of underwriter audits and development of customized manuals to support corporate objectives. Training underwriters is his passion; hundreds of underwriters have been the beneficiaries of his training over the past two decades.  He believes a well trained underwriter is the best mortality management tool.

Dr. Illango came to the United States after obtaining his medical degree from the University of Sri-Lanka. His graduate level training in Internal Medicine and Hematology took place at the University of Toledo, College of Medicine; he later became board certified in those areas of expertise. Further broadening his credentials he earned an MBA from the University of Toledo, College of Business Administration. His industry certifications include CLU, FLMI and AALU and board certification in Insurance Medicine.

Building customer relationships and customer education has been a critical part of his role as medical director. In this role he has made presentations to employee and general agency audiences at in-house seminars and national sales conferences. Actively involved in the life insurance industry at large, he has often been a guest speaker at regional and national association meetings.
